About this Course
Welcome! I am so glad you are here!
The material in this workshop is designed to deliver both deep delight and peace to your heart and soul. Inspiration to awaken and nurture your authentic life will be given to you in seven parts, which parallel my illustrated book “all i did was listen” (endorsed by best selling artists/authors SARK and Kelly Rae Roberts). I work as a psychologist, art playgroundist, and author, and this book includes inspiring quotes from my clients and my reflections, strung together in a way that speaks of a transformation story that is really all of our stories.
Unique and first time offerings to YOU HERE (which I am so excited to share!) are:
• 7 audios of each chapter! I will read the book to you! You may find it holds more ease to follow along with having the actual book in hand, with seeing the illustrations and words as I read (available here as a single book and also as a “girlfriend pack”, in case you want to buy more than one as a group or as a gift: http://rachelawes.etsy.com). You may also want variation as you listen and: draw, take notes, nap, look into your eyes in a mirror, look out at a lake, or simply close your eyes and be.
• 8 videos of accompanying me on a tour of listening, awakening, and nurturing your life!
• In addition to including the book’s back pages of reflection questions here in downloads, I have made available new exercises that can follow your audio/book/video viewings/listening!
• 6 original illustrations will be included from the book’s original draft that are not included in the published book (there aren’t seven, as the third chapter “Wake up” was added later).
• 7 photos will be included from the beginning of each chapter in the book.
With all my encouragement and love to you as you enter in! Thank you for being here!
XOX,
Rachel Awes
Part 1: Messiness Inside
We glimpse our messiness when we awake. Tangled and tousled hair. Sleepy lines on skin. Wrinkled pajamas. Uneven steps. Here we all are in our glorious realness. This is the us, fresh from dreams. The place where we don’t censor. This is where we find our authenticity. This is where we embrace our beauty. Transformation occurs when we are seen and accepted just as we are.
Part 2: Creation out of Chaos
We all have eruptions of chaos in our lives. Intervals of disruption, difficulty, and disorder. While this is true, we can take heart. We can become curious about what is going to be made on the other side of the chaos. A soup gets going into a crazed swirl as it really becomes something. Notes are written in scattered places as a paper is written. Paint is splashed about before the Mona Lisa is born. This is how it seems to go with us as something new emerges.
Part 3: Wake up
There is this amazing thing! We are here and alive! Let’s: hear the snow crunch as we walk, smell pages of a new book, taste every bite of a peach, hug loved ones, cry at the sight of a newborn, remain in awe of the blooming lilac tree in spring, be surprised at the size of the moon, and savor that a heart is in our chest! Let’s all grow into the wise toddler where everything is wonder and astonishment and gift.
Part 4: Room for Flowers
We can all make room for flowers. There is this important garden to tend to both inside and outside of us. Listening to and acting on our authentic and loving choices will greatly impact our happiness. There are a multitude of ways to newly consider taking sublime care of ourselves!
Part 5: Hold hands
Sometimes it takes only one friend or experience to unlock something powerful within. The kind who remind us of how essential it is to be ourselves in the world. Who invite us to be distinct. Who really know how to hold our hands. These friends and experiences can come in many forms: a person, animal, book, an encounter with the mysterious, and so on! Let’s deliberately go forward with connections that deeply nurture our beautiful presence.
Part 6: A Clear Stream Running
There is a timing about stepping into the next thing. Into our ever renewing life. The pioneers used to wait until the bottom of the river was not stirred up, creating a clear stream, before knowing it was safe to cross over. Are you ready with all your beloved messiness and glorious flowers and weight of love with you? Let’s hold hands and cross over together.
Part 7: I Am Who I Am Who I Am
Let’s learn from the wild kingdom. From the starfish in the depths to the mountain goat in the heights and all life in between. Who abide in their strength. Who breathe into all they are and who are art on earth. Maybe our only business is to be beautiful.
About the instructor
My name is Rachel Awes and there are three primary components to the work of my heart: psychologist, author and art playgroundlist. Out of a private practice in St. Paul, MN, I love traveling beside people and encouraging sight of their full beauty, and action to live it out.
I have written and illustrated two books (endorsed by SARK, Kelly Rae Roberts, Brian Andreas/Storypeople) and am excited about a third one coming in the Spring of 2016! I love words and art that bridge my heart to yours, by saying: hello, you matter, thank you, and possibility.
I made up the word "art playgroundist" because making art feels like recess to me: wind in my face, swing sets, a wide open field, and running through it with all my friends. My books and other products (art prints, cards, mugs, and more) are offered in my online etsy shop, as well as in gift and bookstores across the United States.
