Hi! My name is Rachel McGough and I am the hostess of Handmade U, an art retreat held in our Big Red Barn, built in 1900, near Lincoln, NE. I live in an 1895 historic registered home with my husband Jim, 3 indoor cats, their puppy Cora McGough, 4 barn cats, 7 chickens, and two hives of bees.
If you asked me to pick my favorite craft I just don’t think I could!! I love all things crafty. I spend time searching for vintage feedsack fabrics to create Quiltdori notebooks, maybe a quilt top, or just to embroider on. I also enjoy finding special beads to create one of a kind bracelets. I can’t get enough vintage ephemera either, especially Dennison labels.
Growing up I was surrounded by creative women. My mother Sara Velder has her own long-arm quilting business – Acorn Ridge Quilting. My mom sewed clothing for me, embroidered on my jeans and jean jackets, sewed Raggedy Ann dolls, quilts and more. Both of my Grandmothers were also talented with their sewing machines making clothes, quilts, doll clothes and teddy bears.
Aside from crafts I have a passion for travel with my husband! I also am spoiled with my husband’s hobby, BBQ’ing, his quite the Pittmaster! Who knows you may see us on the BBQ Competition circuit one day soon!?
I am so happy you are here! I do hope you enjoy the classes that I have in store for you! Please share what you make and bring your questions to me using one of my links in the left-hand sidebar!
