About this Course
Well hello, brave girl!
We're so happy you're here with us to make some beautiful jewelry. In this little course, Melody will walk you through simple techniques for making gorgeous jewelry pieces out of clay and leather. Even if you've never tried this before in your life, you'll walk away ready to make something wonderful!
To start off this course, Melody will be talking about what it means to wear your word, and how you can make inspiring pieces of jewelry to remind yourself of how important and loved you really are.
Let’s begin our chip art journey!! Come join Melody in the chip art room and learn some cool techniques and basic tools you can use as you begin developing your chip art skills.
Along the way, Melody will walk you through several techniques for working with modeling clay such as Sculpey. Though you are welcome to use leatherworking tools or other similar tools, Melody has taken great efforts to develop techniques that don't require purchasing expensive art supplies--many of the pieces she will be making are made using stuff you probably have lying around your house.
Making jewelry out of clay can be a ton of fun---especially once you start adding the finishing touches! Painting and antiquing will bring out all the gorgeous textures and designs, and make your pieces truly look "finished."
Next we’ll start making some beautiful jewelry! All around the Art Barn (and Melody's closet) you will find dozens and dozens of leather cuffs, belts, and more, custom-tooled and custom-painted with gorgeous words and art. We love working with leather at Brave Girls' Club, and we want you to see how much fun it is! Melody will demonstrate how to make a leather bracelet using chip art tools and some neat finishing techniques.
Finally, follow along as Melody demonstrates how to add a little paint to some beads. Plain wooden beads are cheap and easy to find at any art supply store--and with a little bit of love, can turn into stunning custom-painted jewelry pieces. Follow along as Melody walks you through that process.
Plus, she'll give some tips on how to assemble your finished pieces. Once you've made a menagerie of pendants, beads, earrings, and more, it's time to wear your beautiful art!! Enjoy! XOXO
About the instructor
I love being part of Brave Girls Club and sitting in this big worldwide circle of sisterhood....it has changed my life in all of the best ways. I am profoundly grateful for all of it, and I work hard to never take it for granted.
I'm an artist, teacher and entrepreneur. I have started and owned a few different companies and written many books. I have sold and licensed my art all around the world, which is what I had dreamed of doing since I was a little girl. In 2004, my husband sustained a traumatic brain injury which changed the direction of our lives dramatically and led me to my TRUE life's work.
Taking care of my husband and holding my family together while my business and the rest of my life fell apart all around me left me feeling broken in every way. I used art and journaling to heal the fragmented parts of my soul, and once I felt healed I wanted nothing more than to share what I had learned and how I had healed with my sisters all over the world. That's where Brave Girls Club came from...my curriculum is what I have used to heal myself and make my life joyful again.
I live in Star, Idaho where my husband and I have raised our 5 children. My husband made a miraculous full recovery which we consider a tremendous miracle that has prompted us to spend our life helping others out of the kinds of dark times we were in for so long. Our greatest treasure in life is our family, ...especially the grandchildren who have come to us! We plan to spend the rest of our lives doing more of what we are doing now....enjoying life, helping where we can, creating beauty, and spending as much time as possible with our beloveds...at home and all over the world. We appreciate every new day we are gifted with, and life is beautiful! So happy to be here with all of you!
